2012 Catalunya MotoGP FP3 Result: Pedrosa Crushes Race Lap Record

Dani Pedrosa topped the timesheets in the final session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Barcelona, smashing the existing race lap record and getting well on the way to the pole record, which has stood since 2008. Pedrosa took the top spot in the last few minutes of the session, after mounting a soft rear to drop his times into the 1'41 bracket.

Pedrosa had to depose his Repsol Honda teammate to take the top spot. Casey Stoner had sneaked ahead of Monster Tech 3 Yamaha's Andrea Dovizioso in the last 10 minutes, posting a scorching time using the harder rear. Dovizioso had held the fastest time for most of the session, having been the first man to get under 1'42 early on in FP2, though the Italian had used the soft rear to get the time. Hector Barbera ended the session in 4th, the Pramac Ducati taking advantage of Jorge Lorenzo to leapfrog well up the field. Barbera finished ahead of the factory Ducati of Nicky Hayden, the American taking 5th spot ahead of yesterday's fastest man Jorge Lorenzo, who was six tenths slower this morning than he was on Friday.
